We are a community of fiber artists in Hampton Roads.
Coastal Virginia Weavers is dedicated to sustaining the art, history and practice of hand weaving. Our studio is a vibrant hub where you can practice, explore and celebrate traditional and contemporary fiber arts.
Regardless of whether you’ve been weaving for years or don’t know warp from weft, you’ll find our weaving studio in Norfolk welcoming to all skill levels.
Why weave?
Sometimes, it’s nice to put down your phone and slow down. Hand weaving and fiber arts provide a mindful alternative to the fast-paced nature of our digital lives.
Weaving your own textiles thread by thread is the antithesis of fast fashion. It encourages creativity, problem solving and visual language through color, texture and shapes.

What you can expect
Our members weave together in an open studio. Many of our members have looms and weave at home but still come to the studio for the community. Once a loom is available, hop on! And if you’ve never woven before, we’ll teach you. In fact, most of our members joined as beginners, so you’ll be in good company!
The fee is $75 a month, which includes the use of the loom, instruction and fiber for your first project.
Our weavers use natural fibers to make everything from clothing and blankets to towels and tapestries. Many of our members also learn to clean, card, spin and dye fiber. Some are learning how to grow flax to process it into linen. Did you know you can make fiber from stinging nettle, pineapple and bananas? The possibilities are endless! Outside of the studio, we share our love of weaving with the community.
